Delmar Loop businessman Joe Edwards is known for his big ideas, but on Thursday he revealed he is now planning something on the small side. It’s an 800-seat performance venue called Delmar Hall and it is meant to give performers options when they play The Loop. “Bands that are coming up, whether local or touring, can play The Duck Room at Blueberry Hill, which seats 340, then the next time they come through St. Louis, Delmar Hall, which will seat 800, and then the next time if they keep going up, The Pageant, which seats more than 2,000,” Edwards said. It’s an idea Edwards and his partner in The Pageant have been talking about for a while, but it took a bit of a setback to move forward – the departure of Big Shark Bicycle Company. “Doing it in The Loop was important and there wasn’t quite the right spot, so when Big Shark decided they were going to move on, I thought it’s the perfect spot,” Edwards said. Delmar Hall will sit right next to The Pageant, where Edwards said there is already plenty of parking. Music fans are reacting favorably to the news. “You can never have too much music, especially in the River City,” said Josh Edelen. For Edwards, the timing could not be better because another project of his. The Loop Trolley is set to open late this year or early next year. He expects to begin construction on Delmar Hall in mid-April and open it in the fall.
