Chain Store Age: Coachella Valley center gets makeover

The major power center in California’s Coachella Valley, which encompasses the resort towns of Palm Desert and Palm Springs, is getting a makeover.

The 560,000-sq.-ft. Indio Towne Center owned by Red Mountain Group has completed construction of new Marshall’s and Burlington locations, and new ULTA Beauty and Five Below stores are scheduled to open in the fall.

Located off the heavily trafficked I-10 freeway, Indio Towne Center draws customers from a 15-mile radius—especially since its WinCo Foods store is the only large-format supermarket in the region, according to Red Mountain, which acquired the center last year.

Knoebel Construction converted and expanded an existing retail space to build the 40,000-sq.-ft. Burlington location. The 21,000-square-foot Marshalls, ULTA Beauty, and Five Below stores are all  ground-up construction.

Other major tenants include Home Depot, 24 Hour Fitness, Party City, Petco Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, McDonalds, and Starbucks.
