ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI – Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson, engaged Fox Architects to design their new $20 million Emerson Climate Technologies Innovation Center at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. The one-of-a-kind research and training facility, which breaks ground in October, is the fifth collaboration-based, advanced-technology center that Fox Architects has designed for Emerson.
A partnership between Emerson Climate Technologies and the University of Dayton, the 40,000-square-foot innovation center will drive the future of the global heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) industry. Construction of the facility, which has a total project cost of $35 million to $40 million, is expected to be complete in late 2015, with a grand opening in spring 2016. Other innovation centers that Fox Architects has designed include: “What sets these innovation centers apart from traditional training, product design and research centers is the collaboration-based customer focus that Fox designs into the facilities,” said Michael Fox, CEO of Fox Architects. “The design puts the customer squarely at the heart of the process.” The Emerson Climate Technologies Innovation Center will bring together researchers, Emerson product developers, industry partners, customers and students to advance research and education for global HVACR industry. “Nowhere else will you find a similar facility where academic researchers and industry participants can come together under one roof to dialogue, develop and test HVACR technology solutions through real-world applications,” said Ed Purvis, executive vice president of Emerson Climate Technologies. Prototype installations of real-world applications – such as a home heating and cooling system and a supermarket refrigeration system – will allow researchers to test concepts, technologies and scenarios before trying them in actual installations.
