ST LOUIS, MO – Wiegmann Associates has begun HVAC work on two new Hub on Campus high-rise complexes near the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. The projects have a combined budget of $79 million. Wiegmann is the Engineer of Record (EOR) and HVAC mechanical contractor for the design/build projects. The general contractor is ARCO National Construction and the architects are Antunovich Associates and Myefski Architects. The developer is Core Spaces.
Wiegmann is responsible for the design, coordination and installation of the complete, energy-efficient heating and cooling systems in each building, which combined total 538,000 square feet. Each of the 300 apartment units will be equipped with programmable thermostats for individual control as well as cost and energy savings. Wiegmann’s HVAC solution will also serve the state-of-the-art fitness center, steam room and sauna, common areas and lounges, retail spaces and executive business offices at each of the two buildings.
Hub University is located at 1103 W. University Ave and Hub Third Ave is located at 1258 NW 3rd Ave. When complete, the eight-story Hub University will hold 109 apartment units with 413 beds and 9,000 square feet of retail space. Seven-story Hub Third Ave will hold 201 apartment units with 661 beds and 11,000 square feet of retail space. Both buildings will be used as off-campus student housing with each first story reserved for future retail tenants. Hub University and Hub Third Ave will be open for lease in 2020.
In addition to the energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, the buildings are being built with numerous green features, including drought-resistant landscaping, motion light sensors and energy-efficient lighting, electric car charging stations, water filtration ponds, black-out shades and more.
