Flo Valley News: Saint Louis Crisis Nursery Celebrates Grand Opening of their Ferguson Center

Mayors, Councilmembers, local community leaders, and supporters joined together to celebrate the opening of the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery’s Ferguson Outreach Center located inside the Ferguson-Dellwood Community Resource Center located at 1433 Stein Rd., Ferguson.

Crisis Nursery CEO, DiAnne Mueller kicked off the ceremony by thanking everyone for their commitment to children and talking about the impact the new outreach center will have on the Ferguson Community.  “Together, we offer hope and support to families struggling with overwhelming parental stress, homelessness, major health issues, any crisis.  We wrap our arms around them and walk with them on their journey,” DiAnne states.

The Crisis Nursery Ferguson Outreach Center will provide families with crisis counseling, community referrals, home visitation, and parent education groups.

“When services are located in the community, neighbors become part of the solution… when services (like the Crisis Nursery) are located in the communities where their clients live, families are stronger because parents feel less isolated,” said Toni Burrow, Executive Director of the Ferguson-Dellwood Community Resource Center.

Saint Louis Crisis Nursery has been serving the North County Community for over 25 years, with a Crisis Nursery located on the campus of Christian Hospital.  During the Ferguson Unrest of 2014, the Crisis Nursery responded to the request of the current Nursery families and canvassed the community every weekend, knocking on doors and giving out formula, food, diapers, and any other essentials that parents needed during that time of crisis.

Staff offered crisis counseling, care management, and referrals.  Since then, the Nursery has had numerous Ferguson Holiday Family Parties at the First Baptist Church of Ferguson with over 400 people attending.
The Crisis Nursery is committed to preventing child abuse and neglect by offering real help and real hope to families in crisis.  The Crisis Nursery is an independent, not-for-profit agency providing short-term, safe havens for more than 7,200 children a year, birth through age 12, whose families are faced with an emergency or crisis.

The Nursery provides care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at five sites, serving families throughout the greater St. Louis, St. Charles, Southern Illinois, and surrounding regions.  For more details on the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery, please call 314-292-5770 or visit www.crisisnurserykids.org.
