Gold Press: “New World” Stage Play–FREE ADMISSION

“New World,” an original Gitana Productions one-act play about three refugee women from Afghanistan, Bosnia and the Republic of the Congo, will be performed in three locations in recognition of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month. Admission is free for all performances.

Cecilia Nadal, Executive Director of Gitana says “This production has returned to stage because of its power at a time when the question of immigration and acceptance of refugees continues to be relevant and controversial in America. The play gives voice to women who make up the refugee community and tells their stories. Most often the policy debates do not include the voice of women when the face of immigrants and refugees in the USA is more female than male.”

Nadal further states “Though not readily discernable, the connection between African American women with immigrant/refugee women is their connection through the web of history and second-class citizenship. We have more in common than not and have the opportunity to edify each other through our shared experiences. Gitana wants to consciously make that connection with an introduction via NEW WORLD!”
