ST. LOUIS, MO Heaterz Chicken is bringing the authentic Nashville Hot Chicken experience to St. Louis with the opening of the local franchise’s third location just opened next to the PJ’s Tavern in the heart of Downtown Kirkwood at 129 W Jefferson Avenue. Nashville Hot Chicken, a spicy version of Southern fried chicken served with a pickle to balance the heat, is a Tennessee tradition that has exploded in popularity nationwide. The new restaurant satisfies increased demand for the dish, which has sparse options in St. Louis.

Heaterz specializes in fried chicken and shrimp dishes, which can be ordered either plain, Nashville hot, or Nashville barbecue. Highlights of the menu include Heaterz’ award-winning Chicken Sandwich served with a pickle and cole slaw to balance the heat, hand-breaded chicken tenders, wings and fried shrimp—paired with signature sides such as street corn, collard greens, Sidewinder fries, loaded potato salad, Dixie slaw, spicy cheese curds and Nashville hot pork rinds. Entrees come with one of four sauces — ranch, honey mustard, BBQ or Heaterz House Creamy Garlic, which are all made in-house. The simple menu is designed to accentuate the fresh, quality ingredients and the signature spice blend used. Heaterz also offers boozy adult slushies. The restaurant is now open every day of the week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with dine-in and carry-out options.

The Heaterz location in Kirkwood started as a lucky reconnection between two childhood friends. Dan King, the owner of Alton Sports Tap and Adam Hartig, the owner of PJ’s Tavern in Kirkwood grew up together and reconnected over both being new restaurant owners. Dan is a nurse by trade who was initially looking to buy a health clinic after working through the COVID-19 pandemic. Dan had the authentic Nashville Hot Chicken recipe and had just opened the first Heaterz location in Alton in March 2022. Adam had recently purchased and renovated restaurant space in Kirkwood, Missouri — and is a huge Nashville Hot Chicken fan. The two decided to put their ideas into opening a third Heaterz location next to PJ’s Tavern. Heaterz has two other locations in Alton, Illinois and Swansea, Illinois.
“This is our third location within seven months, and we have plans to open several more within 18 months,” says Heaterz owner Dan King. “Our mission goes beyond serving interesting, tasty and authentic Nashville food. We also strive to make our community stronger.”

Heaterz positively contributes to the local community by offering affordable food and creating new jobs for nearby residents. The restaurant also hosts local fundraisers and offers first responders free hot meals during their shifts. Heaterz’s community-based Currency of Caring dignified dining program allows customers to buy tokens to help feed those in need. Customers can provide the token to anyone in need to redeem or put it in a collection box. When 100 tokens are reached, Heaterz’s “Love Thy Neighbor” food truck takes 100 free meals to locations that serve people in need.
