The Missouri casino industry saw adjusted gross revenue in the 2012 calendar year fall 2 percent to $1.77 billion, compared with $1.80 billion in 2011.
According to the 2012 “State of the Industry” annual report by the Missouri Gaming Association, admissions to the state’s casinos in 2012 were down by 4 million to 50 million admissions, compared with 54 million reported in 2011. The Missouri casino industry generated $386 million in gaming tax revenue for Missouri in fiscal year 2012. The casino industry provided more than 9,600 local jobs with a payroll of $336 million. The state’s casinos also contributed $1.7 million in cash and in-kind donations. The St. Louis metropolitan area is the sixth largest casino market in the U.S., according to the association’s report. Missouri ranks seventh in total state gaming tax revenue among casino markets nationwide. The state’s casinos pay an effective tax rate of 27 percent in addition to other business taxes. The Missouri Gaming Association is an association of the Missouri casino entertainment industry and its related professionals. Revenue at the six St. Louis-area casinos topped $89.6 million last month, down 7.8 percent from February 2012, as all the casinos saw a decline. Casino Queen in East St. Louis saw the largest percentage revenue drop, 10.7 percent, to $10.5 million, compared with the same month last year. |
