Saint Louis University Hospital selects McGrath & Associates for $1.5 million emergency department expansion

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI – Saint Louis University Hospital has contracted McGrath & Associates as general contractor on a $1.5 million interior expansion of its emergency department. Work began in February and will be completed in June 2013. The design team includes BSA LifeStructures and KJWW Consulting Engineers.

The 4,000-square-foot project will expand the emergency department with five additional treatment rooms, a new nurses’ station, work and storage spaces, and a new two-station registration area with three additional offices. The emergency department, one of the region’s busiest trauma centers, treats more than 100 emergency cases each day and more than 39,000 cases per year.

The project will be constructed in two phases, with the existing registration area remaining in operation throughout the first phase. The emergency department is located above the hospital’s main lobby, with up/down escalators and a main reception desk next to and below the work area. A main corridor will be relocated to allow for the expansion.

McGrath will coordinate construction to minimize interruptions during the electrical relocation and selective demolition process. They also will implement strict contamination control measures to ensure a safe work environment and clean air quality for staff and patients.

McGrath & Associates, celebrating its 30th year, is a 100 percent employee-owned general contractor and construction management firm specializing in commercial, health care, industrial, institutional and pharmaceutical construction projects.
