Wiegmann Associates Completes Work On Food Distribution Center For The Chefs’ Warehouse In Las Vegas

Wiegmann Associates has completed work on a new LEED Certified refrigerated food distribution center for The Chefs’ Warehouse in Las Vegas, NV. As Engineer of Record and mechanical and controls construction manager, Wiegmann designed and installed all refrigeration systems, HVAC equipment and a Building Automation System. The new 80,000-square-foot facility features office space, a fully functional test kitchen, -10F freezer, cooler, candy/chocolate cooler space, dry storage and cold dock. The general contractor was ARCO Construction Company.

“The primary challenge of this project was designing and modeling the building to meet the stringent LEED standards for energy efficiency,” said Steve Pearce, Vice President of Business Development for Wiegmann Associates. “Facilities with large process refrigeration loads use a lot of energy so we needed to design the other building systems to be extremely efficient. We also implemented energy conserving control methods for the refrigeration systems.”

Wiegmann installed refrigeration equipment for a -10-degree freezer, 34-degree cooler and cold dock areas; a Direct Digital Control (DDC) Building Automation System; a Variable Air Volume (VAV) HVAC system to serve the 13,475-square-foot office space; a packaged rooftop unit to temper the dry storage area; and an HVAC and exhaust system for the test kitchen. Wiegmann also completed LEED documentation related to their scope, including the energy model.

Wiegmann Associates is a St. Louis-based mechanical contractor serving the commercial, industrial and institutional markets, and a national leader in design/build HVAC projects.
