Seventy-three college scholarships awarded to area students by Burger King franchisee Broadway Restaurant Group

ST. LOUIS, MO – Seventy-three area students have been selected to receive college scholarships through the BURGER KING℠ Scholars program sponsored by Broadway Restaurant Group, a Maryland Heights-based Burger King franchisee. Each Broadway Restaurant Group BURGER KING® restaurant located in the St. Louis region, across Missouri and in Southern Illinois awarded $1000 in scholarship money to an employee, employee family member or local community member to attend an accredited two- or four-year accredited university, college or vocational-technical school. A total of 13 scholarships were awarded specifically to Burger King employees.

This year, Broadway Restaurant Group raised a record-breaking amount of $73,000. Winners were selected based on both academic record and community service experience. Across the United States, $4.5 million in scholarships were awarded this year through the Burger King℠ Foundation Scholarship program to more than 3,000 individuals.

“We know that the secret to a great customer experience is having a happy team. Awarding scholarships is just one of the ways that we support and invest in our employees,” said Henry Delouvrier, co-founder and managing partner of Broadway Restaurant Group. “Our Burger King Family Fund also supports employee families during emergencies and hardship situations. And, we provide a path to a rewarding career for those who want to build their future with Burger King. In fact, 90% of our managers were promoted from within.”

During the coronavirus pandemic, Broadway Restaurant Group gave thank you bonuses totaling $450,000 to support employees for working through the difficult time.

The BURGER KING℠ Foundation is the charitable arm of the BURGER KING® system and is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The BURGER KING℠ Scholars program was created in honor of BURGER KING® Co-founder James “Jim” W. McLamore and has awarded more than $44 million in scholarships to more than 39,000 students since 2000. The program was created to create brighter futures and empower individuals through education. Integrity, high standards, entrepreneurial spirit, good citizenship and education were the values that defined BURGER KING® brand co-founder James W. McLamore.
